How to get your business found on Google: local SEO basics

A beautiful website helps nobody if customers cannot find it. Search engine optimization — SEO — sounds technical, but for a local business the basics are simple. Nobody can honestly promise you first place; these seven steps, though, are what consistently moves businesses up.

1. Start with the words your customers type

People do not search for your company name — they search for what they need and where: “hair salon Zenica”, “catering Belgrade”, “plumber near me”. Write down ten such phrases and make sure your website actually uses them in titles, headings and text.

2. Give every service its own page

One page that lists everything is hard to rank. A separate page for each service — with a clear title, a description, photos and answers to common questions — gives Google something specific to show.

3. Make the site fast and mobile-friendly

Most local searches happen on a phone. A site that loads quickly and is easy to use with one thumb keeps visitors — and page experience is something Google measures.

4. Create and complete your Google Business Profile

The free Google Business Profile is what appears on the map and in the box next to the results. Add your category, address or service area, opening hours, photos and a link to your website — and keep it up to date.

5. Ask happy customers for reviews

Reviews influence both where you appear in local results and whether people choose you. Ask in person or by message right after a good job, and reply to every review — including the critical ones. Never buy or invent reviews.

6. Keep your name, address and phone consistent

Use exactly the same business name, address and phone number on your website, Google profile, Facebook, Instagram and local directories. Inconsistent details confuse both customers and search engines.

7. Publish useful content

Answer the questions customers ask you every week — prices, how long something takes, how to prepare. Each good answer is a page that can show up in search, and it shows visitors you know your work.

How long does it take?

SEO is not instant. A new website is usually picked up by Google within days or weeks, while competitive phrases can take months of steady work. The websites we build are SEO-ready from day one — clean structure, titles, descriptions, sitemap and structured data — so you start from a solid base.
